About Me

I grew up in a family of 10 boys and 3 girls in Mason City, Iowa. I did undergraduate studies in Music Education and Social Work at the University of Northern Iowa and graduate studies in Social Work at the University of Iowa. After child protection work and private clinical practice in Waterloo, Iowa , I moved to Minneapolis, MN, with my life partner in 1987. We retired from nursing and mental health professions in 2011.

My interests include home making, gardening, birding, biking, travel and genealogy. My interest in genealogy didn’t accelerate until 20 years after Charley Ross was introduced to me by my father, Harrison Miller. In 1977, he removed “The Black Satchel” from an old, mildewed cardboard drum in our wet basement, handed it to me and said “This is Charley Ross.” Our website tells the rest of the story that was revealed by our 20 year investigation.
